What Do You Think The Most Popular Cat Breeds in America?

It is not always easy to measure the popularity of cat breeds, primarily because cats are such unique individuals.

What makes a breed popular among cat owners?

Is it timelessness? The fact that certain cats have been around for so long gives them an advantage in terms of popularity. There is something familiar and comforting about taking care of a cat that is not totally new.

Veterinarian Lorelei Tibbles recently conducted a poll on her Facebook page about the most popular cat breeds in America among readers of The Cat Doctor blog .

"A number of factors should be considered before answering this question," said Tibbles. "It is very difficult to find statistics regarding breed popularity as many potential cat owners do not register their pets. Also, each person has different reasons for choosing one breed over another."
